Little Shop of Horrors

Little Shop of Horrors

Book and lyrics by Howard Ashman, music by Alan Menken

Musical based on the film by Roger Corman, screenplay by Charles Griffith

‘Little Shop of Horrors’, German by Michael Kunze

One of the most frequently performed musicals ever: with hits and humour, it has achieved cult status worldwide. Now ‘Der kleine Horrorladen’ can be experienced for the first time at the Altes Schauspielhaus!

But why ‘The Little Shop of Horrors’? In a run-down corner of Los Angeles lies Mr Mushnik's miserable flower shop. The unassuming employee Seymour works here. He is secretly in love with his colleague, the enchanting Audrey. But business is going badly and both are threatened with unemployment.

However, when Seymour brings in an exotic plant and places it in the shop window, new customers flock to the shop. And Audrey finally notices her shy admirer. Is a happy ending on the horizon? No, because the exotic plant is a carnivorous plant that demands blood, not water!
In the 1980s, ‘The Little Shop of Horrors’ took the musical metropolis of New York by storm. ‘The evening is as entertaining as it is exotic!’ cheered the New York Times. From America, the musical began its triumphal march around the world. Quirky humour, the successful mixture of comedy and horror elements and, above all, Alan Menken's great music in the style of the 1960s are the key to the play's success. It has been honoured with countless awards, including two Drama Desk Awards (Outstanding Musical, Outstanding Lyrics), two Outer Critics‘ Circle Awards (Best Off-Broadway Musical, Best Music) and the New York Drama Critics’ Circle Award (Best Musical).

The production is directed by Klaus Seiffert, whose productions, including ‘Hair’ and ‘The Comedian Harmonists’, have thrilled audiences.

The songs will be sung in German.
